Welcome to my website!

For over thirty years, I’ve been researching ways for individuals to extract the maximum income from their retirement investment accounts, without running out of money. My research has led to the formulation of the “4% Rule”, my appearance in many financial podcasts, conferences, and newspaper articles, publication of two books, and a sense of satisfaction that, in some small way, I am helping people lead happier lives.

This website is my venue for communicating with you. My goal is to help you understand what’s required to create and manage a successful personal retirement withdrawal plan, so that your money lasts your whole lifetime. Your starting point should be my new book, “A Richer Retirement: Supercharging the 4% Rule to Spend More and Enjoy More.” I recommend you read that first. It will be released on August 5, 2025, and pre-orders are being taken now by your favorite online bookseller. You can find more information under the “My Book” tab.

Once you’ve read the book, I recommend you visit here regularly for information on new research, and to ask me general questions about my work. You can also download charts and tables which wouldn’t fit in my book, due to space limitations. Over time, I plan to expand this library of charts and tables to satisfy the vast majority of situations of interest to visitors like yourself. You can also download the charts from my book, not in black and white, but in glorious living color!

I will attempt to answer each of the questions you submit on the “Ask Bill” page of this website, for all to see, and to do so in a timely manner. Over the years I have fielded many such questions from individuals, and my website provides a means for all to consider my answers.

I wish you a long, happy, and fulfilling retirement. And don’t be afraid to spend some of that money in your retirement accounts. After all, wasn’t that your purpose in saving it during all those years of hard work? Enjoy!

Best regards,

Bill Bengen
