I’m curious about your decision to allocate only 20% to international equities, which is notably lower than the approximately 40% share of international stocks in the global market capitalization.
For comparison, Vanguard’s LifeStrategy Funds allocates around 40% to international equities, and both Schwab and Fidelity feature higher international allocations in their all-in-one portfolios as well. -JJ
JJ, that’s a fair question. I’m following the common protocol of assigning an equal allocation to each asset class. International stocks have generated significantly lower returns than any class of domestic stocks over the last century, so I thought I was being generous in giving them equal billing. However, it’s possible that their lack of correlation with domestic stocks may compensate for that. I will investigate this further and report back on my findings on this website. Thanks for the excellent questions! Bill Bengen
