More SAFEMAX Finder Tables?

Hi. I enjoyed reading your book but I remain confused as to how to calculate my individual SAFEMAX. Tables 2.2-2.4 show SAFEMAX rates base on CPI and Shiller Cape for “standard configuration.” Later in chapter 12, table 12.7 demonstrates the SAFEMAX finder for a specific configuration (different asset allocation, different legacy, and planning horizon). Are there SAFEMAX finders for the many other possible configurations (I imagine this would lead to 100’s of tables)? Is there a calculator available that would just allow you to input a specific configuration in order to calculate SAFEMAX? I am also confused that you refer to IRA’s as nontaxable (e.g. table 12.1), but at the same time do not see anywhere where taxable vs nontaxable is taken into account in calculating SAFEMAX. Thanks.  W.

Dear W.,

Thanks for your note and for your interest in my research.

At this point, the only SAFEMAX tables I have are the ones included in my book. I know that many more are needed. Over time, I plan to create SAFEMAX Finder tables for taxable accounts as well as tax-deferred accounts (they are different), and post them to my website. Currently, I am working on SAFEMAX Finder tables for a 35-year planning horizon, which I will post in the near future. I also plan to add some SAFEMAX Finder tables for various tax rates.

Best regards,
